PowerSync acquires VIOTAS Australia; companies sign technology MOU
PowerSync adds an established industrial grid flexibility business with 227 MW of flexible demand. Under a technology MOU, PowerSync will continue to offer VIOTAS technology to Australian customers. VIOTAS is increasing its focus on growth in Ireland, USA, and adjacent markets.
Sydney, Australia and Limerick, Ireland – 4 November 2026 – Australian energy-technology company PowerSync has acquired VIOTAS Australia Pty Ltd from Irish smart-grid technology company VIOTAS. The companies have also signed a technology memorandum of understanding (MOU).
VIOTAS launched in Australia in 2020 as its first international market. It has since gone on to build out further operations in the USA. Its Australian team built the business from a standing start into an industrial demand-response powerhouse with 227 MW of flexible demand that participates in the National Electricity Market (NEM).
The acquisition adds that team, customer base and operating capability to PowerSync, which combines its own energy-asset orchestration and optimisation platform with battery and electricity-market expertise, as it pursues growth across the NEM and Western Australia’s Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).
VIOTAS will place increased focus on growing in Ireland and the USA, broadening its services and client bases in both markets and building them as hubs for the delivery of the company’s grid intelligence technologies into adjacent markets. In Ireland, where it was founded, its priorities include broadening grid flexibility services for large energy users; in the USA, its priorities include helping industrial businesses and data centres earn revenue from grid flexibility.
Under the MOU, PowerSync will continue to offer VIOTAS technology to Australian customers, and the companies will collaborate closely on bringing VIOTAS innovation to the Australian market, as a step towards a longer-term commercial agreement.

David Naismith, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of PowerSync, said:
“PowerSync has built the technology, market access and operating capability to turn flexible energy assets into valuable market capacity. The acquisition of VIOTAS Australia represents a step change in our scale and growth – expanding the flexible capacity we manage and deepening our industrial customer base. The continued scaling of our platform across behind-the-meter and grid-scale assets places us at the forefront of current and emerging markets and expands our ability to deliver innovative products and services to our customers.”
Professor Paddy Finn, Chief Executive Officer of VIOTAS, said:
“Six years ago we took technology built in Ireland to Australia and started from scratch. The team built one of the largest grid flexibility portfolios in Australia, that will now serve to springboard PowerSync’s ambitious growth in the market. While we continue to broaden what we offer in Ireland and the USA, and building both into hubs for adjacent markets, our MOU with PowerSync extends the reach of VIOTAS Grid Intelligence technology by making it a competitive advantage for other ambitious operators.”
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Prof. Paddy Finn and David Naismith are available for interview.
